Chapter Seven
Alyssa sighed as she returned her twenty-sided die to its usual bag.
If the results of her past Locke-related rolls were any indication, she really needed new dice.
Or at least a different rolling technique. After all, though they always used the same dice, Bexley always managed to come out on top (both figuratively and literally, now that Alyssa thought of it), and of the three of them, Bexley was definitely someone who knew ⦠techniques.
But well, between Bexley and now Ember, Alyssa was pretty sure she wasnât going to benefit from any rolls today, anyway. Locke was a man with stamina, but even heâd be exhausted after experiencing those two in quick succession.
Still, it couldnât hurt to prepare.
Alyssa sorted through her travel bag, organizing its contents into neat little piles in her and Emberâs shared wardrobe until she came upon what she was looking for.
Her bathing suit was a simple white one-piece bought in a moment of desperation the last time she was here, after she discovered that her then-current bathing suit ⦠had not kept up with her developing womanly figure. And it had been so long since sheâd been to Steamridge at that point that the result was a little too revealing in a little too-trashy way.
Alyssa didnât mind showing a little skin in the right circumstances, but it was beneath her to be trashy about anything, and so sheâd immediately gone to find a replacement.
Sheâd barely entered Steamridgeâs little swimsuit boutique when this one sang to her from the back of the shop. She didnât know why; it looked rather plain on the rack. But when she tried it on, she found that it fell upon every contour of her body like it had been tailored just for her. The upper hem around her decolletage dipped along the curves of her breasts just enough to tantalize; the cut of the sides accentuated her hips and waist and made them look like they belonged to a supermodel; and the lower back showed just enough cheek to be ⦠well, cheeky without being trashy.
Women had a rule about such clothing: When it fit that perfectly, it was a sign from the gods of fashion, and you kept it, for the gods of fashion were more ruthless than others about being ignored. (So the legends said, anyway. Alyssa had never tested it, mostly because she hated shopping for clothes to begin with and appreciated the assistance, however divine or coincidental it was.)
Now she disrobed of her usual sedate captainâs jacket, waistcoat, leather trousers, and bright red satiny underthings (which she always wore, just in case), and then slipped into the swimsuit and admired herself in the mirror.
She wouldnât get any practical use out of it tonight, she knewâat least, not of the sexy kindâbut still, it wouldnât hurt to tantalize, to let Locke know what he had to look forward to.
Captain Alyssa was not a vain person, but looking in that mirror, at the fine shape her bathing-suited body cut across its surface, even she recognized that Locke had a damn lot to look forward to.
